Goats! Goats! Goats!
The shepherd of their lands
As they munch their oaty-oats
They roam the earth in bands
The clack of a hoof, the sound of a bleat
We certainly know you're coming
To jump a fence is a quite a feat
For the goat-a-running!
But woe to those who try to eat you!
As though you would eat grass
For humans you would eat two!
Including the little lass
Up and down the rocky tide
Where you make your dwelling
You kick a traveler off the side
There shall be no telling!
So O' mighty goat, peace to thee
Continue on your path
For if any would make war with ye
He should soon know your wrath!

A short poem I was working on in Brit Lit (instead of doing what I was supposed to, naturally).
I ended up loving the result; it struck home and made quite a few smiles to-day, which all things considered, makes any work worthwhile. Poetry is usually either all lovey-dovey (though, don't get me wrong, I'm a fan), or all depressing. Here, instead, is a fun piece about those animals we all call 'goats'.
